The point of an anniversary is not the drink. It is that nothing can go wrong.
Hotel bars keep drawing people because they push the odds of something going wrong very low: the seat is always clean, someone is always serving, the bathroom never has a queue. The ten percent service charge is what buys that.
The cost is the price. NT$500 to NT$800 a glass; two rounds for two with a small plate, NT$2,000 to NT$3,000. Hold that number first and the choices below get clearer.
The loud one: tenth floor, No. 10 Zhongxiao East Road Section 5
WOOBAR sits on the tenth floor of the W, eight hundred-odd reviews and a 4.3. Its strength is atmosphere — on Friday and Saturday a DJ starts after eight, the whole floor turns into a party, and the windows look out on Xinyi’s lights. Its weakness is the same thing: anyone hoping for a quiet talk will find themselves shouting by nine.
For an anniversary here, pick a weekday and sit down between six-thirty and eight — an hour before sunset is best. The room is half as full, and the same glass buys the sky going from blue to black. Ask for a window seat when you book; without asking, you will be seated inside.
From MRT Taipei City Hall it is about five minutes on foot; from Taipei 101/World Trade Center about ten. The surrounding routes and other high-floor options are in the Taipei rooftop bar guide, and Xinyi’s bar list has the names.
The quiet one: fifth floor, No. 158 Dunhua North Road
M O. Bar is on the fifth floor of the Mandarin Oriental, five hundred-odd reviews and a 4.5. No DJ, no 101 outside the window — what it has is height, carpet, and enough space between seats that no one raises their voice.
Honestly, if the purpose of the evening is to talk through a whole year, this room suits better than the one in Xinyi.
Prices sit close to WOOBAR’s, NT$600 to NT$800 a glass plus ten percent service, the list leaning toward classic cocktails and whisky. Tuesday to Thursday evenings are the most relaxed; Friday and Saturday still need a booking. MRT Nanjing Fuxing and Taipei Arena stations are both about ten minutes on foot; the rest of this stretch of Songshan is in Songshan bars and bistros.
Dress: smart casual at both, at minimum. Flip-flops and shorts get stopped at the door, and being stopped at the door on your anniversary is an ugly scene.
Presentable without a hotel
A hotel bar is not the only answer, only the steadiest.
Opium Champagne Bar on the ground floor of No. 16-2 Xinyi Road Section 5 has two hundred and ninety-odd reviews and is champagne-led — for occasions that call for a bottle rather than a glass; in the same building at No. 16-1, second floor, Alchemy Bar Taipei has six hundred-odd reviews and a heavier cocktail line. Barcode on the fifth floor of No. 22 Songshou Road has nine hundred-odd reviews, no high-altitude view, and 101 straight overhead the moment you step outside.
Further north, 異塵CELLAR LOUNGE BAR in the basement of No. 19 Nanjing East Road Section 4 has seventeen hundred-odd reviews and a 4.8 — the highest score of the lot. A wine-cellar mood underground, no skyline, and a glass runs NT$100 to NT$200 less than a hotel.
The hotel belt on Zhongshan North Road Section 2 also holds a few lobby bars — old-fashioned, quiet, strong on whisky, suited to a parents’ anniversary, priced about the same as Xinyi. The list is in Zhongshan bars and bistros.

The first night of any long weekend.
On those nights hotel bars mostly switch to set menus: the same seat at double the price, the room packed, service that cannot keep up. If the anniversary lands on one of them, go a day early or a day late — the difference is large. By the same logic, typhoon nights and heavy rain are when hotel bars are emptiest — only people with a car and driver get in, and if you happen to be one of them, that night is a gift.
Getting home
Hotel entrances have taxis queued all night — the most practical benefit of drinking in a hotel. Ride apps in Xinyi and on Dunhua North Road arrive within three to five minutes; MRT Taipei City Hall and Nanjing Fuxing last trains run around midnight.
If you drank, it is a cab or a designated driver, no exceptions. The last leg of an anniversary is not worth the gamble.
